5 Powerful Tips if Deciding To Self-Publish-Sherri Rosen Publicity Intl, NYC

Everyone has a story to share, whether it’s a personal story, a testimonial or professional advice. We all have something to contribute to this world. One way of sharing our story is through writing a book. Have you thought about it before? If you’re ready to write your book, or if you’ve written it already, how do you feel about getting it published and out into the world?

When we think of publishing, we usually think about landing our book in a publishing house. But here’s an alternative: how about self-publishing? I’d love to share a few helpful tips that I learned while self-publishing my book “Give me Your Truth.”

Tips for a great self-published book:

1. Target a Niche Market: the marketplace is flooded with voices that are fighting for our attention. Don’t get lost in the crowd. Identify exactly who your audience is before writing your book. If it’s already written, than make sure that your content is tailor-made for your target market.

2. Get Yourself a Knockout Editor: that doesn’t mean spending a lot of money on a fancy editor. You can hire an intern straight out college who is an English major and excels at writing and editing. The more experienced the editor, the more he/she will be likely to understand the various discrepancies and grammatical errors existing in your work. Make sure you get references.

3. Choose Digital over Print: first off, e-books are much cheaper to produce than paperbacks and it’s smarter to test the waters and see if your e-book sells before investing in making hard copies. Digital books are also easier to sell, since you can price them as low as $.99.

4. Invest in Cover Design: unappealing book covers are all too common in the e-book marketplace. Don’t fall into this trap, and invest in creating a attractive book cover that is made for the digital platform.

5. Get Yourself a Knockout Publicist: don’t expect your book to sell the minute it’s up on Amazon.com, a wise word: “the biggest mistake people make when it comes to self-publishing is that they expect to just put out a book and have it magically sell. “ If you’re too shy to market yourself get your book out there, the best investment you’ll make is a passionate book publicist with great contacts and a successful track record in publicity. Again, make sure you get references.

If the idea of self-publishing sparks your interest, than go for it! Follow yours dreams and do everything you can to make them happen! If it’s money you are concerned about

self-publishing an ebook is the most economical way to go. Also you may think about getting involved with sites like Kickstarter or GoFundMe to raise money for your project.
