Watering My Plants and Flowers
I killed all plants and flowers that came in contact with me when I was young. Something happened when I got older. I wasn’t as overwhelmed with my life and I could begin to appreciate being connected to the earth.
It’s a balmy summer day and I just came in from my balcony. I cannot wait until I fill up my water pitcher and go outside and water all of the plants and flowers. I get so connected to taking care and seeing the brilliance and beauty of taking care with the flowers blooming in magical colors and plants getting stronger and everything thriving. I also see when something isn’t being taken care of properly, like my orchid plant which is dying. When it was indoors it had these beautiful green leaves but wouldn’t rebloom, so I decided to leave it outdoors and it is now dying. I am not sure if it was the pure shock of the change. But the plants and flowers reveal so much to me about being alive. It’s almost an immediate response. As I am pouring the water into each flower bed or into each plant I can feel the love and nurturing qualities flowing through me that also feed me and the plants and flowers. I find I get excited when filling up the water pitcher, knowing I am going to make the flowers and the plants stronger and happier (not in the case of the orchid, but, hey, I’m not perfect).
I also have exquisite orchid plants throughout my home. I have found it is much simpler and more economical to buy orchid plants and have the flowers last for months, then to spend money every week to buy fresh flowers. It took me years to figure that one out, plus there was no Whole Foods around to sell the orchids at such a cheap price. So why am I writing this story? I feel it’s about love and nurturing and how to take care of myself and others. In this instance I receive honest and genuine feedback from myself because I am so connected to the earth. I don’t have to rely on the outside world for honesty, because I have tried that and it doesn’t work, at least for me it doesn’t. Does it work for you?
