Redhead’s Rap-Etu Evans, a shoe designer with soul
One my talented friends, Etu Evans, was on a radio show I booked him on. He was sharing the beautiful story of his company, a story of adventure and daring, compassion and love. Etu Evans is a twenty-first century cobbler, a shoe designer for stars and big names – Etu Evans LLC. He also has a not-for-profit called “Solesville.” It’s so simple, but so good. People donate their shoes and he fixes them up and donates them to people in need all around the globe. Solesville—donating shoes to save one sole at a time. Etu is definitely a shoe designer with soul.
In any event, I was tuned in and listening while Etu was regaling the radio show host with tales of service and innovation, and then to my surprise the interviewer asked about me. Etu Evans began describing me to her, and this is some of what he said:
“What I love about Sherri is she has an unchained sense of freedom to dare to be who she is. She has a warm heart. Sherri sips from the truth serum goblet straight. No chaser.”
I was floored. It’s an incredibly humbling and encouraging thing to have someone you admire and look up to affirm you. Sometimes, it’s the little confirmations, the nudges and shout outs, that can breathe new life into your day. I felt that beautiful feeling when someone gets you, appreciates what you are about. I was blessed.
Words can heal. They can renovate. Kinds words, especially, can simply make one’s day a good day, a damn good day.
If you see talent in those around you, why not name it? Why not tell someone, even this weekend, how much you respect or love them? Maybe it’s as simple as saying you appreciate the work they do. Whatever it may be, we can really make the world a better place when we speak good words into each other’s lives. Words can build and restore. Kind words can heal. Like the words of Martin Luther King. In some sense, kind words are what make the world go round.
