Authors! Write What You Want To Write! Don’t Write Just To Please Your Audience by Sherri Rosen
Approximately 20 years ago I became a book publicist in NYC and a successful one at that.
I’m giving the same advice that I received 20 years ago when I became an actress–“Don’t try to please your audience! Become the character and the rest will take care of itself!”
It’s the same advice I give authors in writing their book. Write what’s in your heart! What you know & decide whether you will go fiction or non-fiction. If you write what you love, and have a great editor, the story will take care of it self. Writing is hard & lonely work, so write about books that make you happy. If you love what you do, the audience will love it too. But, in most cases, it doesn’t happen overnight so don’t give up and be patient! Yes, with some authors, they may find success right away on the bestseller list, but in most cases it takes what I call “hard work and magic!”
