Empathy & Compassion Are Requested!! During Hard Times These Qualities Are Demanded Of Us!!
We’re all having a hard time. Some of us are more sensitive than others and can be very challenging.
There’s a certain expectation that people have, not all people but many, that if I am going through a hard time I will receive kindness & compassion. No guarantees, no expectations! You may receive it and you may not. Some humans have that instinctive quality of knowing the right time for empathy & compassion, and others either don’t have a clue or are too scared to offer any kindness (these are the folks that really need to learn to give it to themselves). Empany and Compassion we may offer to others, but we first must offer it to ourselves.
I reached out to certain people, for support, that I’ve known for a long time and guess what! They ignored my request. Do I get angry–No! Do I feel sad–Yes! And I reachout to folks that will support me and say “yes” and won’t ignore me. Do I berate the people that ignored my ask for help & support–NO-It would serve no purpose..Believe me I tried and all I receive is anger, blame & rage–I don’t need that.
It’s not easy when you are a compassionate, emphathetic and kind human being because people mistake it for weakness. It’s not WEAKNESS! It’s STRENGTH and it’s not about what’s in it for me.
These times call for supporting one another, but I have found many people are hiding, protecting their sanity, and that’s fine, but if you are one of these people, try to do something small but meaningful and if you don’t want to do something when asked then please be honest with the person who asks.
I do professional standup storytelling about my own life, and i perform in audiences throughout the City. What is a blessing to me is when people come up to me afte the show and say “I needed to hear your story today.”
Compassion, kindness, and empathy bring many gifts to you and others. Yes! I know it’s not easy, but go for it!!!!!
