Pink’s Invitation: Reach for your Dreams
“You’ve gotta get up and try, try, try.” How many times have we had to say this to ourselves? The words to Pink’s new video/song Try are my sentiments about, well, pretty much everything in our lives. The song goes on:
Where there is a desire
There is gonna be a flame
Where there is a flame
Someone’s bound to get burned
But just because it burns
Doesn’t mean you’re gonna die
The conclusion? You’ve gotta get up and try, try, try. It’s true in business agreements and the nine to five grind. It’s true in family, holiday meals, and staying in touch with your brother or sister. It’s true in love, the hunt for the right one, risking love, and reaching out. It’s even true in health, stretching, pushing yourself, getting your heart rate up, not settling for less.
To love is to risk. To try anything is to light a flame. And where there is a flame someone’s bound to get burned. But it’s true—just because it burns, it doesn’t mean you are not going to live through it. You’ll come out alive, and better for having made the effort.
So let us dance. Let’s risk. Let’s exert ourselves, let’s strive. It’s never to late to do one’s best, to do one’s utmost. Let us give it our best shot—even if we have to bend over backwards, or bust a gut. Let us do our damnedest, pull out all the stops, go all out, and reach for our dreams. Whether its our relationships or our careers, we’ll never get anywhere if we do not try.
Never give up. Dust yourself off and give your dream another try. Reach for the stars, not counting the cost of what might happen if you fall. As Pink sings with boldness, “You’ve gotta get up and try, try, try.”
